Would they be able to use the light trick? The shell would be prertty hard and thick for this big of an egg if I remember correctly
Your concern is definitely reasonable, but since eggs are porous, it’s easier than you think, even with super tough shells! You can even do the light trick with ostrich eggs, which is the closest to what my harpies lay in size and general shell strength. Eggs generally get their strength from their shape as well, not just how thick the outer layer is.
I get kinda nervous when talking about this stuff since I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I enjoy writing out the logistics of things like this and I never look at my follower count anyway so whatever. I’m having harmless fun.
I honestly just really like birds and being able to study and build onto mythological creatures is neat.
Also eggs are developed PRETTY DAMN QUICKLY, like even birds aside from chickens and ducks. So Wilson would very literally wake up in the morning and be like HUH, THAT’S WEIRD at his tum. Probably only a few more days and it’d be laid.
Also Maxwell is far broodier than Wilson and is rather overtly protective of the egg. Well, that is once they determine that it is indeed fertilized with the light trick after a week. Family is a sensitive subject for him.

Their harpy anatomy is intersex but normally with only one functioning reproductive organ. Full moon did weird magic. Technically it could have happened to either of them but lets be glad it didn’t happen to Maxwell with his tiny hips.
